Dia de Los Muertos Celebration November 2, Sunday

FINALLY, THE DOORS TO MICTLAN, THE LAND OF DEAD, HAVE BEEN OPENED TO THE PUBLIC. Camarillo, California, Oct 16, 2008–Conejo Mountain Funeral Home, Memorial Park & Crematory will host its first celebration of “El Dia de Los Muertos” in association with the Inlakech Cultural Arts Center on Sunday, Nov. 2nd. The theme for this first event is “El Gran Fandango”; a cultural memorial celebration.  The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Conejo Mountain site, 2052 Howard Road, Camarillo.  The purpose of hosting this event at the cemetery is to mirror the memorial traditions of Mexico, in order to allow us a rare opportunity to honor our deceased with respect and dignity.Throughout the day everyone is invited to participate in traditional Dia de los Muertos activities.  From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be activities for children including opportunities for face painting, preparing an altar, making papel picado, designing sugar skulls and making Ojos de Dios.  From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. there will be a memorial gallery art exhibition on display in the main building .   At 3 p.m. the afternoon and evening activities will begin with a traditional ceremonial procession around the cemetery, and will be followed by live presentations of Danza Azteca Kalpuli Huitzilin Ihuan Xochitl and Nahui Ollin will be the two Aztec dance troupes, Inlakech Folklorico Dancers and Mariachi Inlakech and several guest singers.   “El Gran Fandango” has been organized by Javier Gomez in conjunction with Bob Boetticher Jr., Managing Partner at Conejo Mountain.  Javier Gomez has been organizing celebrations for el Dia de Los Muertos in this region for more than 26 years. EVERYONE IS INVITED TO JOIN US FOR OUR 1st ANNUAL MEMORIAL CELEBRATION “EL GRAN FANDANGO.”  Please come dressed in your festive MUERTO Attire.  Food Booths/Comida, Altars, Prayer, Laughter and Tears  For more information call: 482-1959 

Driscoll Foundation Donation
